Why is there salt in your phx metro, east valley az AZH2O?
The main water purveyor in our valley is SRP (Salt River Project). They call it the salt river because it runs through salt riverbeds from the Saguaro Dam to your home.

Here is a short story of how reverse osmosis was developed.
Two UCLA engineering graduate students, Sidney Loeb and Srinivasa Sourirajan, made that process possible, with research starting in the late 1950s. The pair created the first practical RO membrane using cellulose acetate. They filed for a patent on the new membrane in 1960.
These two scientists were experimenting with pig bladders; reversed the osmosis process to provide us with pure water.
This technology is utilized in our United States submarines to take sea water and make this drinkable.
Some countries will not have enough water; so they utilize the reverse osmosis process and take water from the sea (take out the salt – purify this water with reverse osmosis) and provide this to the people. We may perform this same process in the Sea of Cortez for our Arizona people.
The process of reverse osmosis performs the water purification function so well – it makes the water slightly acidic.
Is drinking slightly acidic water healthy?
Having low levels of magnesium may contribute to high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and conditions that cause irregular heartbeats. Mineral water rich in magnesium may therefore help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Our water contains a slight amount of magnesium.
Because the reverse osmosis process leaves the water slightly acidic; we utilize a magnesium oxide crystal (add this to an empty filter canister after the RO water stream).

We fill this empty filter canister with this magnesium oxide.
By neutralizing the free carbon dioxide in water, Corosex can correct acidic water conditions and render it less corrosive. Corosex, being a highly reactive magnesium oxide, is used most effectively where pH correction is substantial or high flow conditions are in use. pH correction and media consumption are affected by a number of water chemical variables. Being soluble to acidity, Corosex will slowly dissolve and will need to be replenished periodically.

CAUTION: All filtration systems contain other parts that have a limited-service life. Exhaustion of the service life of those parts often cannot be easily detected. Commonly, it is only after the leakage has been observed or water damage has occurred that one is made aware that the service life has been exhausted.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: To prevent costly repairs or possible water damage we strongly recommend that the bowl or sump of all plastic housings be replaced periodically: every five for all outside filter cannisters. If your sump (filter canister) has been in use for more than the recommended period, it should be replaced immediately. Be sure to date any new or replacement filter canisters for future reference and indicate the next recommended replacement date.
If you don’t change your filter canisters (sumps) periodically…. we recommend you change your filter canisters (sumps) every 5 years to prevent failure.

Plasticity is the propensity of a material to undergo enduring deformation under load when compressed. It is the quality or state of being plastic; especially the capacity for being molded or altered. The plasticity of a material is directly proportional to the ductility and malleability of the material.
All the plastics on your reverse osmosis unit can crack and break.

When the plastics get old, they can break and cause a serious leak and flood in your home. You might be required to tear your home down because of black mold caused by a reverse osmosis leak.

On all our reverse osmosis unit installations since 2006 we have installed a leak control device. If a leak is caused by our RO units’ moisture will be detected and shut off the water production to the RO unit.
