Here’s that letter about the current coronavirus pandemic of which I spoke.

I worked on pandemic preparedness for 20 years. I sent the following to my kids.
Pandemic just means an infectious disease is spreading world-wide. The term has nothing to do with how many people die. In some pandemics, no one dies.
The exercise I worked on last year with Johns Hopkins University and the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation was called EVENT 201. We picked that name because in most years there are 200 pandemics, but they are rarely covered in the media. We called our exercise EVENT 201 because we simulated a pandemic that would receive lots of media coverage—a corona virus pandemic. We ran the exercise in NYC on October 15.

I agree with the bottom line: 40-70% of global population will eventually be infected, but there is a lot of good news in that number. A really deadly contagious disease burns out fast. People die so quickly they don’t infect many people. So far, virtually no children have died. Fatality rate is very low, and mainly old folks.
COVID-19 will likely become endemic (like polio), which is why we need a vaccine.
When you hear people say we will have a vaccine in a few months, that is somewhat true, but in serious need of qualification.
Thanks to great leaps forward in genetics, we can have candidate vaccines in a matter of days. We will begin Phase 1 testing in a few months. This was the case for ebola in 2014. However, for ebola, Phase 1 testing was on 12 people. Getting to Phase 4 and FDA approval will likely take several years.

Bottom line: if you ride a motorcycle without a helmet, smoke cigarettes, or don’t get flu shots every year—then you have lots more to worry about than COVID-19.

When my parents purchased their Rayne Water Conditioning franchise in December 1966; they rented our current facility and then purchased these buildings and land.
