The inattention of our failing water infrastructure couldn’t come at a worse time. A 2021 study by Just Security, based at the NYU School of Law, explained how extreme weather events—exacerbated by global warming—are leading to even more failures of inadequate and poorly maintained infrastructure. When this equipment is unloaded at our factory; we carefully vetted it – evacuate the media in our media evacuation area – sanitize the tanks and parts and place the good parts and components into action.
Over the next years, the work that concrete Dave is performing in our media evacuation area will become very important. The weight of our rental water treatment industry will be on the shoulders of Concrete Dave and on the shoulders of our expert process and design people to make sure we get it right. The key element: we will be creating dumping mechanisms to evacuate the used water treatment media into the super sacks. We will utilize Bobcat to lift the super sacks out of this area. What is Hexavalent Chromium (or Chromium-6)?
Many people know hexavalent chromium as a silent antagonist in the biopic Erin Brockovich (2000), which starred American actress Julia Roberts as a legal assistant taking on a company accused of polluting the water of rural Hinkley, California, which resulted in elevated rates of cancer and death among the town’s residents. But what is hexavalent chromium, and what is it used for?
Industry adds chromium (Cr) to iron and nickel to make metal alloys especially characterized by their high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Used in small amounts, chromium hardens steel. Stainless steels are alloys of chromium and iron in which the chromium content varies from 10 to 26 percent. Chromium alloys are used to make products such as oil tubing, automobile trim, and cutlery. Chromite is used as a refractory (a substance that is resistant to heat) and as a raw material for the production of chromium chemicals. The most common forms of chromium are +2, +3, and +6 oxidation states.
In very small amounts, trivalent chromium (Cr+3) is useful in animal metabolism, helping to regulate glucose levels and increase the effectiveness of insulin in the body. This form of chromium appears in a number of foods, including broccoli, potatoes, and garlic. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) notes that, on average, people take in less than 0.2 to 0.4 micrograms from the air, less than 2 micrograms from the water, and less than 60 micrograms from food each day.
Hexavalent chromium (Cr+6), in contrast, is toxic. The chemical is used in a number of industrial processes as well as for leather tanning, chromium plating, colored glass making, and in paint pigments and inks that color plastics and fabrics and serve as corrosion-resistant coatings. It is hazardous when breathed in, ingested, or touched. It carries a 50 percent lethality (LD50) when ingested to the amount of 50 milligrams per liter of body weight.
Chromium-6 and chromium-3 are covered under the total chromium drinking water standard because these forms of chromium can convert back and forth in water and in the human body, depending on environmental conditions. Measuring just one form may not capture all of the chromium that is present.

Some of the adverse health effects from hexavalent chromium exposures include nasal and sinus cancers, kidney and liver damage, nasal and skin irritation and ulceration, and eye irritation and damage.
Possible Adverse health effects associated with hexavalent chromium exposure include asthma, eye irritation and damage, perforated eardrums, respiratory irritation, kidney damage, liver damage, pulmonary congestion and edema, upper abdominal pain, nose irritation
and damage, respiratory cancer, skin irritation, and erosion and discoloration of the teeth. You will develop an allergic skin reaction, called allergic contact dermatitis. By taking a shower in hexavalent chromium – you will get dermatitis; is long-lasting and more severe with repeated skin exposure. Furthermore, contact with non-intact skin can lead to ulceration of the skin sometimes referred to as chrome ulcers. Chrome ulcers are crusted, painless lesions showing a pitted ulcer covered with fluid.
If we drink water that contains hexavalent chromium; and take showers in water that contains hexavalent chromium – we risk death.
What is hexavalent chromium?
Hexavalent chromium (chromium(VI), Cr(VI), chromium 6) is chromium in any chemical compound that contains the element in the +6 oxidation state (thus hexavalent). Virtually all chromium ore is processed via hexavalent chromium, specifically the salt sodium dichromate. Hexavalent chromium is key to all materials made from chromium. Approximately 136,000 tonnes (150,000 tons) of hexavalent chromium were produced in 1985.[1]
Additional hexavalent chromium compounds include chromium trioxide and various salts of chromate and dichromate, among others. Hexavalent chromium is used in textile dyes, wood preservation, anti-corrosion products, chromate conversion coatings, and a variety of niche uses. Industrial uses of hexavalent chromium compounds include chromate pigments in dyes, paints, inks, and plastics; chromates added as anticorrosive agents to paints, primers, and other surface coatings; and chromic acid electroplated onto metal parts to provide a decorative or protective coating. Hexavalent chromium can be formed when performing “hot work” such as welding on stainless steel or melting chromium metal. In these situations, the chromium is not originally hexavalent, but the high temperatures involved in the process result in oxidation that converts the chromium to a hexavalent state.[2] Hexavalent chromium can also be found in drinking water and public water systems.[3][4]
All hexavalent chromium compounds are toxic (due to their oxidizing power) as well as carcinogenic (IARC Group 1), especially if airborne and inhaled where they cause lung cancer. Positive associations have also been observed between exposure to chromium (VI) compounds and cancer of the nose and nasal sinuses.[5] Workers in many occupations are exposed to hexavalent chromium. Problematic exposure is known to occur among workers who handle chromate-containing products and those who grind and/ or weld stainless steel.[6] Workers who are exposed to hexavalent chromium are at increased risk of developing lung cancer, asthma, or damage to the nasal epithelia and skin.[2] Within the European Union, the use of hexavalent chromium in electronic equipment is largely prohibited by the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive and the European Union regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.[7]

It occurs naturally in the environment from the erosion of natural chromium deposits.
How are these chromium deposits occurring?
The dark layers are chromium.
Chromite has been mined from four different deposit types: stratiform chromite, podiform chromite, placer chromite, and laterite deposits.
Chromium is used to harden steel, manufacture stainless steel (named as it won’t rust), and produce several alloys.
Chromium plating can be used to give a polished mirror finish to steel. Chromium-plated car and lorry parts, such as bumpers, were once very common. It is also possible to chromium plate plastics, which are often used in bathroom fittings.
About 90% of all leather is tanned using chrome. However, the waste effluent is toxic so alternatives are being investigated.
Chromium compounds are used as industrial catalysts and pigments (in bright green, yellow, red, and orange colors). Rubies get their red color from chromium, and glass treated with chromium has an emerald-green color.
Chromium was discovered by the French chemist Nicholas Louis Vauquelin in Paris in 1798. He was intrigued by a bright red mineral that had been discovered in a Siberian gold mine in 1766 and was referred to as Siberian red lead. It is now known as crocoite and is a form of lead chromate. Vauquelin analyzed it and confirmed that it was a lead mineral. Then he dissolved it in acid, precipitated the lead, filtered this off, and focused his attention on the remaining liquor from which he succeeded in isolating chromium. Intrigued by the range of colors that it could produce in solution, he named it chromium from the Greek word chroma meaning color. He then discovered that the green coloration of emeralds was also due to chromium

How do hexavalent chromium and chromium 6 get into my Phoenix metro and East Valley Arizona water? We live in the desert. In the desert water is scarce. Much of our water falls to the ground several hundred miles away from our water treatment plant; each drop falls to the ground as a pure water molecule. Water is the perfect dissolvent. When our AzH2o water molecules hit our desert floor it flows down mountains, washes, streams, and river banks and is stored in our lakes (where we fish and boat). The water is released from our lakes and flows down more streams and rivers and dirt ditch banks where if flows to our canals and then to our water treatment plants. During this transportation process, our AZH2O water molecules are dissolving the heavy metals of hexavalent Chromium, chromium 6, lead, and mercury. The water you draw from your faucet contains hexavalent chromium and chromium 6, lead, and mercury. Does your water treatment plant utilize treatment methods to remove all the hexavalent chromium, chromium 6, lead, and mercury?
